Emma lost 55 pounds | Black Weight Loss Success

Transformation of the Day: Emma lost 55 pounds. This self-professed foodie switched to eating a high protein, low carb diet and made exercise a priority. Her supportive partner helped her stay accountable and was there every step of the way.

What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
I was actually very motivated by thinking of the number of times I had failed to lose weight in the past. So I began 2021 thinking, “If I don’t succeed this year, then I should just forget about it.” It felt like this was my last chance. I knew that 2021 would be a big year for me, and I wanted to look and feel my best.

I am also very fortunate to have a supportive partner who keeps me accountable when I want to give up and helps me every step of the way to reach my goals.

How did you change your eating habits?
My eating habits had to change a lot. I am a very big foodie who loves pastries, snacking and high-carb food. However, I had to maintain a new habit of eating a high protein, low carb diet. High protein meals helped me feel fuller longer which ultimately helped me eat less throughout the day and have a daily caloric deficit. I also found that preparing my meals in advance for the week helped me keep to the new habit of eating.

What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
I go to the gym four times a week. My workout routine typically consists of strength training (such as lifting weights) and focusing on different body parts (such as the arms, chest, and lower body). When I am feeling really good, I try to add a 5th workout session to my week for cardio!

What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 235 pounds. My current weight is 180 pounds.

What is your height?
I am 5’6″.

When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
Although I had been trying for over two years to lose weight, I only began taking it very seriously in August 2021 when the gyms finally opened back up after being closed. It took seven months for my transformation.

Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No, weight loss surgery was not part of my journey.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
You cannot outwork a bad diet! In my experience, It was so important to eat right first and then go to the gym to increase my results. My body was not losing weight to exercise alone – my body responded when both my eating and gym life were in sync.

What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?

– Believe in yourself: to be able to do it.

– Challenge yourself: Do the hard things, such as eating right, drinking water, and exercising regularly.

– Celebrate yourself: when you achieve those goals, no matter how big or small.

– Surround yourself: with people who also believe in you and/or people who have the same goals.

– Set up yourself: for success through meal plans/meal preps and scheduled gym sessions with workout routines.
